Justice League Of America: The Nail - Book Two

(Art by Alan Davis and Mark Farmer)

An Elseworlds story set in an alternate world where Superman never existed.  Here the JLA find themselves targeted by a media hate campaign and framed for international crimes by a mysterious mastermind.

This is the middle book of a three part story (unfortunately I don't currently have either of the others), so don't expect to find either the set-up or the conclusion here.  However, what there is here is pretty interesting, with the JLA very similar to the mainstream continuity version and yet, at the same time, somehow noticably lesser due to the lack of Superman.

For me the most interesting part of the book was seeing Batman's mind more or less snap when the Joker forces him to watch the murders of Batgirl and Robin.  We've often seen Bruce distraught, angry or somewhat unhinged, but here he is completely mentally shattered.
