The evil and gross Lich breaks free of his magical prison and then begins sucking the entire world into a bag, which he then plans to throw into the sun. Finn and Jake have to call on the help of all their friends and even their foe the Ice King in order to save the world.
Now, whilst I had heard of Adventure Time before reading this book, I've never seen any of the TV show and didn't have a clue what it was actually about. I just knew that it had caused a stir in the geeky circles I move in. So, I have to say that it did take me a little while to get my head around what the premise of this series, and this book in particular, is.
However, once I got onboard with the idea that it's just wacky adventures for two best buds for whom nothing is impossible, I started to like it. When I got to grips with the tongue-in-cheek humour of the story, I enjoyed it even more. The best example of this was when, quite late in the book, Desert Princess makes an army of duplicates of herself who then merge into one giant duplicate so they can get a kiss off of Finn, the Ice King suddenly flies off saying "Welp, I'm out. That's my limit of crazy for today!".
Not deep, dark or complex, but surprisingly entertaining.
