Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Casey & April

(Art by Irene Koh)

Set amid the events of 'Vengeance' in the main TMNT series, this book sees the titular characters taking a roadtrip into the desert in search of details about The Pantheon, the immortal god-like beings who may be behind all of the Turtles' challenges.

Casey and, in particular April, have taken an understandable backseat in a lot of the TMNT stories by IDW but I was curious to see them out on their own where their individual characters can shine and we can also see a bit of development of their relationship.  Unfortunately, there's not really a lot of either in this book.  Honestly, there's not really a lot of anything in this book and by the end I didn't feel like I'd learned anything new about the title characters or about the Pantheon who are the entire driving force of the... well, I hesitate to use the word 'plot' because there isn't really one.

The book's one redeeming feature is the Rat King.  The IDW reimagining of the character is great and here we get to see him at his most creepy and his most mysterious.  Again, we sadly don't learn anything significant about him, but at least he's here.
